Key visuals, supporting production shoot

— To bring an extra sense of movement and spectacle to its festive gifting campaign, The Glenlivet turned to 3D to create dynamic visuals that could sit alongside the studio-shot assets.
Working with my studio’s Creative Director, we developed a series of 3D key visuals featuring flowing ribbon forms that surround The Glenlivet’s digital-twin bottles. Built as controlled virtual sets alongside the production shoot, the scenes enabled seamless swapping of bottles across a curated range of festive assets for web, eCRM, and eCommerce.

Approach


AI outputs & alternate composition layouts
AI was used during the pitch phase to rapidly visualise early concepts and explore the campaign’s visual direction.
While this accelerated ideation, the AI outputs often contained unrealistic artefacts and inconsistencies, making it challenging to translate the references into production-ready 3D visuals that met the client’s expectations. To refine the compositions and explore alternative layouts, I also turned to sketching as a way to quickly visualise and iterate on scene structures before building them in 3D. Alongside the core range, we explored visuals for The Glenlivet’s prestige expressions, experimenting with alternative materials, textures, and ribbon structures to expand the campaign’s visual language into a cohesive yet elevated set of seasonal assets.


Process
Building the visuals involved testing and refining ribbon compositions, lighting, and materials to create cinematic, realistic scenes that could sit seamlessly alongside the studio-shot campaign assets.
The initial AI renders often produced impossible formations, so we explored alternate composition layouts, testing how the ribbons interacted with the bottles. Lighting was carefully adjusted to create a premium, cinematic look while staying within brand parameters, including camera angles, materials, and the dominant teal from The Glenlivet’s colour palette. Balancing the colour to maintain vibrancy without washing out the scene was a key challenge. Bringing realism to the assets was crucial to their integration into the production shoot, with the digital twin bottles created by Wayne Langley serving as the foundation for the builds.

Final Design
After several rounds of refinements, the client was very pleased with the visuals, which were successfully deployed across web, eCRM, and eCommerce as part of the festive gifting campaign.
